What you don't get is account managers, offshore hand-offs or layers: the person who scopes your project is the person still in the code six months later.
Hi, I'm Ross Kelly
I have been around computers since I was twelve, and I taught myself to build software the practical way: by making things people actually needed. I have no computer-science degree; what I have is the best part of a decade working professionally in software, starting on a technical support line, then years as a software engineer building and improving commercial products in C#, C++ and SQL, and later running a technical team. I have written the code, answered the phone when it breaks, and been accountable for a team shipping it, which is exactly the perspective you want when your business depends on the software working on Monday morning.
I run Turing IT and I write the software. That is not a small distinction: when you buy a bespoke system, the person you scope it with on day one is the person still in the code six months later, so nothing gets lost between a sales conversation and a delivery team.
Over the years that has meant everything from invoicing and payments platforms to property and tenant-management systems: proper multi-user software with the unglamorous parts done properly, like roles and permissions, audit trails, backups and monitoring. It is the same standard I bring to every client project, whatever the size of the job.
I am not doing it single-handedly, though. There is a small team around me covering design, testing and ongoing support, and specialists I bring in when a project genuinely needs them. It means we have the capacity to take on proper systems and keep them running, without the layers of management you would pay for at a larger firm.
Most of the work starts the same way. A business has outgrown a spreadsheet, or a process that only works because one person remembers how it fits together. My job is to sit with the people actually doing that work, understand it properly, and then build something that fits how the business runs rather than forcing the business to fit the software.
I work with businesses across Somerset, Bristol and the wider South West, mostly in person. I would rather spend a day in your office mapping the process than a fortnight guessing at it from a written brief.
