A clinic website with online booking wired straight in
A clinic site refresh with practicehub.io booking integrated, so patients can book themselves in rather than ring during opening hours.
What they came to us with
An existing website that looked dated and gave patients no way to book an appointment without picking up the phone during opening hours.
About this project
Hartland Chiropractic wanted their existing website brought up to date, and they wanted patients to be able to book an appointment without ringing the clinic.
We modernised the site in WordPress and integrated practicehub.io, the booking system built for clinical practices, so appointments booked on the website land in the system the clinic already runs its diary in. It is hosted on our own servers with 24/7 monitoring.
To be clear about the scope: we did not build the booking engine, and there would have been no sense in doing so. practicehub.io is purpose-built for clinical practice and comes with the compliance work already done. What we built is the site around it and the join between the two.
Why we integrated rather than built
We are a bespoke software company, so it is worth explaining why the right answer here was to buy.
A clinical booking system is not really a calendar. It carries patient records, which means it carries the data protection obligations that come with health information, plus the clinical notes, the consent handling and the retention rules a practice is inspected against. A product built for that market has absorbed years of those requirements and keeps absorbing them as the rules move. Rebuilding it would mean taking on all of that permanently, for a clinic, in order to arrive at what already exists.
The test we apply is whether the process is genuinely particular to the business. Booking a chiropractic appointment is not. It works the way it works at every clinic, which is exactly the condition under which off-the-shelf wins. We set out how we make that call in our guide on choosing between bespoke and off the shelf, and the honest version of it sends work away from us more often than people expect.
What is worth building is the part nobody sells: the join. A booking widget dropped into a page is not the same thing as a booking journey that matches the rest of the site, loads quickly, works on a phone in a waiting room, and does not strand a patient halfway through. That is the work here, and it is the same discipline as any other system integration job.
Where this sits in what we do
This is web and integration work rather than a bespoke software build. We include it because delivering it properly is the same discipline. Where a clinic is handling intake, patient admin or scheduling by hand, that is the point at which a website turns into a system, and that is the work we lead with.
